Twenty-Third Day
I started my day updating blog.
Since the router is not working properly, we restart the router to the manufacturing default setting and setup the router again.
This time we use dynamic IP (DHCP) type internet connection.
The result we obtain is positive since our workgroup enable the access to internet.
New network connection details:
- Description : Broadcam 802.11g Network Adapter
- Physical Address : 00-16-CF-B9-0B-AB

Twentieth Day
The router we setup from previous day is not functioning as we desired because anyone of us cannot connect to the internet.
The day before, the router still unable some of us with internet connection although some of us is unfortunate to get the internet access.
So, some troubleshoot is done to find where the problem lies.
We check in the IP address for the router and workgroups and check the setting for the router and see if there anything we can change to repair the condition.
We use prompt to pinging the IP configuration to identify the wireless LAN adapter wireless network connection which connection suffix DNS suffix for:
1- IPv4 address : 192:168:0:103
2- Subnet mask : 255:255:255:0
3- default gateway: 192:168:0:1
We also troubleshoot at network and sharing centre to view the problem and find troubleshooting information.
The result show that the internet is in limited access.
So lastly, we decided to use UTeM SCL network to access the internet since the router still failed to unable us to get access.
Below is the prompt result after we pinging the ip configuration:

Supervise by miss Sakinah for serial communication task. Serial communication is basically is transssion or transmission of data one bit at a time. It enables different equipment to communicate with their outside world. It is called serial because data bits is send in a serial way over a single line.
Software used for this session is PIC c-compiler, PicKit 2 and PL-2303 Vista Driver Installer.
We test for:
1- Counting,
2- LED on and off,
3- Monitor from keypad,
4- LCD display on and off and
5- Relay on and off.

Ninth Day
Today, Sahara and me as advise by En. Mazran gone to meet person who knows better about the network to look for our task. We met En. Hanafi who specialize in networking and internet at Utem's computer center. But he was busy with his work so, he just give us some information we need to know about the network we're working on.
He explain about:
i. IP address
ii. Gateway
iii. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
iv. Port-forward
v. htttps
vi. http
vii. DNS
He also guide us how to do the task and advise us to try an error. He also help us spot out mistake in setting up the router. The knowledge he gave us helpful to better understanding about the configuration. Also we need to explore more about the router since the setup we've done is incorrect. There is still more job need to be done. We will set meet him in the future to gain more knowledge whether he is free. That's all... :)

Seventh Day
For today, we only filled up log book with the activities we're done for this week since Encik Mazran asked us to submit the log book by Monday next week.
Log book is the same as this Blog. We jot down all the objective, material used, result, observation, conclusion and discussion we obtained for task we're assigned to. this information is important for future reference as this information is required for us to write a long report for this practical days. After finish filling up the log book, I continue to update this blog for the day. Then I also study about networking system to help my understanding to complete the unfinish task. That's the overall activities I've done today.

Sixth Day
Still Seting up the IP camera.
Since it's the first time we facing with UPnP, we're studying the concept first before testing on the network.
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
Is a set of networking protocols that permits networked devices, such as personal computers, printers, Internet gateways, wifi access points and mobile devices to seamlessly discover each other's presence on the network and establish functional network services for data sharing, communications, and entertainment. UPnP is intended primarily for residential networks without enterprise class devices.
The concept of UPnP is an extension of plug-and-play, a technology for dynamically attaching devices directly to a computer, although UPnP is not directly related to the earlier plug-and-play technology. UPnP devices are "plug-and-play" in that when connected to a network they automatically establish working configurations with other devices.

Fifth Day
Today task is to setting IP camera with reference to the manual provided. The setting includes wired and wireless connection from the camera to the browsers. the setting is a success, but we still can't find the solution to connect the wireless camera to the web browser via the router to share the internet access or in another word how to access ip camera from internet. Means that other users cannot view the ip camera using web browser. We're trying to find solution by understanding more about the configuration network between the camera and the router.
For today, we try out Virtual Server which available on D-link Broadband Router. this server allowed us to forward the ports to the device in the internal network. There's difference between port forwarding and Virtual Server which port forwarding includes multi port (8000-8010 or 80,90,100). Besides, Virtual Server only using a single port for example 8000. We're setting the network from the server by defining the public port and observe the result in the web.
But, the result came out failed. Its okay since we're still learning. Next time we're going to troubleshoot on UPnP (Universal Plug and play).
What is IP camera?
An Internet protocol camera, or IP camera, is a type of digital video camera commonly employed for surveillance, and which unlike analog closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras can send and receive data via a computer network and the Internet.

GSM modem is specialized type of modem that operates over subscription based wireless networks which is similar to a mobile phone. A GSM modem accepts a SIM card, and basically acts like a mobile phone for the computer. Traditional modem is attached to computers for ‘dial-up’ to connect with other computer systems. A GSM modem operates in a similar fashion, except that it sends and receives data through radio waves rather than a telephone line.
Besides the dial-up connection, GSM modem can also be used for sending and receiving SMS which is also one of the key features of GSM modem. In this issue, we discuss on how to set up a simple home automation where we can control the fan and monitor the alarm status by using SMS. All the examples given are based on the MOD 9001D GSM Modem available from Cytron Technologies. Some of the features of this GSM Modem are as follow:
i. RS-232 Interface
ii. Support PDU and Text mode for SMS
iii. Tri-Band: GSM900, GSM1800 and GSM1900
iv. Support TCP/IP
v. Support GPRS class 10
vi. Support standard extended open AT commands
vii. Accept supply voltage from 5 to 12V

Third Day
Today, the task is soldering the PIC board. I was supervise by the other practical students who has done the soldering process. The soldering process also requires me to read the student handbook given by Encik Mazran to study and understand more about soldering technique.
Soldering is accomplished by quickly heating the metal parts to be joined, and then applying a flux and a solder to the mating surfaces. The finished solder joint metallurgically bonds the parts - forming an excellent electrical connection between wires and a strong mechanical joint between the metal parts. Heat is supplied with a soldering iron or other means. The flux is a chemical cleaner which prepares the hot surfaces for the molten solder.
When soldering, the key points to remember are:
1. always keep the tip coated with a thin layer of solder
2. use fluxes that are as mild as possible but still provide a strong solder joint
3. keep temperature as low as possible while maintaining enough temperature to quickly solder a joint (2-3 seconds maximum for electronics soldering)
4. match the tips size to the work
5. use the tips with the shortest reach possible for maximum efficiency.
Right amount of solder:
a) minimum amount of solder
b) optimal
The result:

First Day
I am Amira. I am now third year student who's taking degree of electronic engineering major in telecommunication at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).This blog is created as a journal to report my daily life as a practical student in HIIS (Hitech Integrated Innovation Solution Sdn.Bhd) or known as UTeM Holdings. Means that, I will report all the activities and knowledge that I gain during the period of this industrial training. For your information, HIIS was established on December 2011 which is organized by En. Mazran Bin Esro and Eng. Siva Kumar a/l Subramaniam.
Encik Mazran Bin Esro
Engr. Siva Kumar a/l Subramaniam
Today is my first day doing practical in HIIS. After registration process as practical student has done, we were given brief about the company such as its history, project and regulations by Encik Mazran. Then, I was supervise by Eng. Siva Kumar about electronic components. One of the electronic component that he explain was relay. He also emphasized the importance of basic knowledge of electronics and how important to get familiar with electronics components which is required for engineers.
There are two categories of electronic components:
i- Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
ii-Through-Hole Technology
Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
Components which is mounted directly onto the surface of printed circuit board (PCBs). It has largerly replaced the through hole technology construction method. The components is usually made smaller than its through hole counterpart because it has leads or no leads at all. some of the types are components with short pins leads of various styles, flat contacts, matrix of solder balls (BGAs) and terminations on the body of the component.
Though-Hole Technology
components which involved the used of leads that inserted into holes drilled in PCBs and soldered topads on the opposite side either by manual assembly by hand placement or by the used of automated inserted mount machines. Through hole mounting provides strong mechanical bonds when compared to SMT technique.
Relay
Is an electrically operated switch usually by electromagnetics principle to operate switching mechanism mechanically. It is used where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low power signal or circuit that must be controlled by one signal. Relays were used extensively in telephone exchanges.
Operation:
When an electric current is passed through the coil it generates a magnetic field that activates the armature, and the consequent movement of the movable contacts either makes or breaks a connection with a fixed contact. If the set of contacts was closed when the relay was de-energized, then the movement opens the contacts and breaks the connection, and vice versa if the contacts were open. When the current to the coil is switched off, the armature is returned by a force, approximately half as strong as the magnetic force, to its relaxed position.
